Public safety agencies like police departments and other emergency response teams are routinely utilizing Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) to help better protect the communities they serve. These systems are small, remotely-operated devices which can be activated in response to specifically identified incidents, including search and rescue operations, disaster response, active shooters, hostage situations, evidence collection at crime scenes and aiding in the apprehension of dangerous suspects - just to name a few.
Many agencies in Contra Costa County have well established UAS programs in place, and the Pleasant Hill Police Department is currently exploring the development of our own UAS program.
We invite everyone to take a look at the policies and operations manuals we are developing with respect to our proposed Unmanned Aerial Systems program. These documents are currently in progress and have yet to be finalized, pending further consideration and review, but their draft version can be viewed below by clicking on the links.
