Expedited Permitting Process for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS)
The City of Pleasant Hill encourages the installation of EV chargers by offering a streamlined permitting and inspection process in compliance with AB 1236 and the City of Pleasant Hill's Municipal Code Chapter 18.50.170 that further streamlines its approval process for qualifying EVCS. Building permit applications for EV charger systems that meet the eligibility requirements can be submitted via email or in person. The permits will be processed in 1 – 5 business days.
EVCS permit applications will be subject to the following:
- Administrative approval, no Planning Dept. review.
- Approval limited to health and safety review
- Checklist/Permit Application can be signed electronically
- EVCS is not subject to an association approval
- Only one complete deficiency notice will be issued if the application is incomplete
Eligibility:
Review the Eligibility Checklist to determine whether the project qualifies for the Streamlined Permitting Process. If the project is eligible, follow the steps below.
Submittal Options:
1. Electronic Submittal will be accepted by the City of Pleasant Hill for all EV charger permits that qualify for streamlined review by email. Permits submitted by email will be reviewed and ready to be issued in 1 – 5 business days. The City of Pleasant Hill will notify the applicant the permit is ready to be issued; an email with permit fees and a link to make payment will be sent to applicant. .
In order to avoid delays, follow these instructions carefully:
a. Use a single email for each property.
b. Use “EV Charger Permit for {project street address}” as the Subject Line.
c. Attach the required submittals.
d. Complete and submit the Expedited EV Permit,Checklist, & Application to building@pleasanthillca.org
2. In person permits can be submitted over the counter at the 100 Gregory Ln. Pleasant Hill, CA 94543. The EV Charger permit will be processed within 1 - 5 business days.
Inspections:
Once all permits to install the EV Charger have been issued and the system has been installed, it must be inspected before final approval is granted. Inspection requests can be scheduled by phone at (925) 671-5200 Option 1
