Auto Burglary Prevention Tips

Lock Up

  • Close all windows and lock your vehicle completely, even if you are only making a quick stop. An unlocked vehicle is an open invitation to a thief.
  • Remove all valuables from the vehicle and place them in your trunk.
  • Consider employing the use of a security system, The Club or LoJack.

Park Carefully

  • Park in your well-lit driveway or in your garage and never leave your keys in your car.
  • Never leave your vehicle's motor running and the car unlocked, even for very short periods of time.
  • Park where your car will be viewed easily and frequently.

Be on the Lookout

Be on the lookout for suspicious people or vehicles loitering in your neighborhood, but do not make contact. Call the police at (925) 288-4600, ext.0, or call 9-1-1 if you witness a burglary.

Criminals pick easy targets and it only takes them 30 seconds to break into your car. It takes 20 seconds to place valuables in your trunk.
